Successful Pilot Test of Pneumatic Fracturing Enhances SVE at a Former Gas Station Site in Northern Florida.
ARS was recently contracted to apply Pneumatic Fracturing as part of an SVE pilot test in assessing the feasibility of a full-scale system.
The application consisted of injections within a very heterogeneous geology varying from loose sand in the upper depths to very dense clayey sand at the lower depths. Injections were applied in two fracture wells and targeted the stratum between 8 and 31.5 feet logs.
Extraction tests prior to and after the application of pneumatic fracturing showed as much as a 3-fold increase in effective radius of influence under moderate induced vacuum (<100 inches of water) at the extraction wellheads. Based upon the pilot test results Pneumatic Fracturing is being proposed to the state regulators as part of the full scale corrective measure for the site.
