New FDA Certified Zero-Valent Iron Powder Available
Since 1998, ARS has been conducting research to develop a more cost effective and reactive micro-scale zero-valent iron. Earlier this year several breakthroughs have led to the development of our new H-200 FeroxSM powder. Similar to our currently available E-200 powder, this domestically produced material is a high purity "sponge" iron that originates from iron ore. The iron exhibits high surface area due to its small particle size and presence of internal porosities. Unlike cast iron or filings, which are produced by millings or grindings of waste iron stock, the H-200 is a high purity iron powder (95%+) material specifically manufactured by a proprietary gas-reduction process using magnetite as the source material. Lab testing has indicated that this material is as reactive as our imported E-200 product. Also this material is significantly more reactive than standard commercially available iron filings. In response to regulatory agencies’ concern of impurities when installing ZVI treatment systems, FDA certification is available with each lot purchase of the powder.
